Policies
When beginning lessons, I will ask that you fill out a piano contract. This form is for the parent and/or the student to go over the information and sign that they understand my expectations through the duration of lessons. This form discusses my expectations regarding attendance, practicing, payment, cancellation, etc.
Regular attendance is extremely important in learning how to do anything, but especially piano. I understand that life on occasion may get overbooked and lessons have to be missed but I have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. I try my hardest to offer make-up lessons to those that truly have a schedule conflict, but only have a few slots (3) available for these make-up lessons. It is on a first come, first serve basis. If the 3 time slots are full or not suitable to your schedule, then you will still be charged for that lesson (whether you attended or not). Some may not find this policy "fair" but you are not only investing monthly in private music lessons but also a consistent time slot for your student.
If lessons are not cancelled within 24-hours of the allotted lesson time, the student will be charge for the lesson as well. In extreme situations and at the teacher's discretion will make-up lessons be arranged. Each student will be allowed one sick day per semester (January-May & August-December--this will not apply to Summer term). This day will allow a "free pass" for one late cancellation without charge. If two or more lessons are consistently missed without proper notice, the student's lesson time will be given to another student. If lessons have to temporarily postponed for a short time (2 months or less) and you would like to keep the lesson time you are currently in, I do charge a small fee to keep the position open for your child.
Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to teach every student that has shown interested in taking lessons and I am on a strictly first come, first serve basis. I currently do have a waiting list and would be happy to put your name on the list and will let you know if and when I have an opening for you. If a problem arises and you can no longer take lessons, please give me some type of notice (as much as possible). When beginning music lessons, if you know in a year that you will be relocating, let me know. Having this information can give me an idea with how much time we have to work through our material, as well as it gives me time to place a new student in the upcoming time slot. Those that abruptly stop taking lessons will forfeit the remaining paid amount already paid. I do not offer refunds for any reason.
Due to an unfortunate amount of bounced checks, I am only currently accepting cash. Thank you for your understanding & sorry for the inconvenience. If money for the entire month's lessons is not received by the second lesson of the month, lessons will be discontinued immediately due to lack of payment.
Each student is given a specific lesson time and expected to keep this lesson time each week. If your schedule changes and that time no longer accommodates your schedule, please contact me as soon as possible. I cannot guarantee that I will have a new time available for you student, but I will do my best to help accommodate your new schedule with the times I am available to teach lessons. I never want to discourage a parents' participation in their child's music lessons and will never tell a parent that they cannot come but as of late I do ask that parents' allow the music lesson to be just the teacher and the student. Too often have I experience a distracted student when others accompany them to lessons and feel that their allotted lesson time should be a time to completely focus on new concepts, not cell phones ringing or siblings playing.
