About the Teacher
Natalie (Conner) Ransom
Welcome! My name is Natalie Conner Ransom. I was born and raised in Midwest City, Oklahoma, just outside of Oklahoma City. Growing up music was always a large part of my home life. My mother would play the piano often while we grew up, as her mother did when she was growing up, and so on. My mother felt that it was an essential part to raising happy children & having a happy home. My 3 other siblings and I were required by our parents to take piano lessons through out elementary school (K-6th). Though it was not always enjoyable, we all have grown to appreciate this. My brothers have gone on to pursue other musical instruments and my sister continues to dabble with piano here and there. I took my first lesson from my mother in our living room when I was 4 years old. I began lessons with an outside teacher a year and a half later. I continued to take lessons until I was 16 years old, making my way through a few different private teachers and into a performance academy through a local university. I began teaching lessons at age 14 when I was approached by a friend of my parents in search of a teacher for her great-granddaughter. Since then, I have had over 90 students (many who are still taking lessons). I believe it is important to not only teach but take a genuine interest in the lives of my students, whether it be school, grades, sports, problems they are having, etc. Through this I believe you can develop more of a personal connection with the student, which opens the gateway to teaching effectively and the student is so much more eager to learn. Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed playing the piano but never thought I would ever enjoy teaching, especially as much as I do. Along with teaching lessons, I have spent time as a nanny to children and as a social worker for the OK Dept. Human Services, along with being a college student. In 2008, I met a wonderful man and July of 2010 we were married. I quit my job with the state later that year after finding out I was expecting a child. My wonderful husband, Aaron, and I welcomed our sweet Charlotte into our family at the end of June 2011 & our darling Caroline in February 2014. In 2014, we also made a very big and important decision that would further my husband's career that sent us to Denton, Texas. We loved our experience there for 3 years. Upon completing graduate school in 2017, my husband's took a job that moved us to Terre Haute, Indiana, where we welcomed our third daughter, Eleanor, into our family. Balancing being a full time mom, housekeeper, wife, cook, helping run our youth program at church, working part time for a travel company, and piano teacher has been difficult but I enjoy every minute of my life and appreciate all the wonderful people that are in it. My family comes before anything else and I take comfort in knowing that I am able to teach lessons in the same location that my children are, though they do not make appearances in lessons. My family is actively involved in our religious congregation and our community. Teaching is what I love to do and am grateful for the opportunities I continually get to share my talent with others and help them develop theirs too.
